How did your career in hospitality begin?
I spent 2.5-months backpacking through Europe during college and fell in love with travel and experiencing other cultures and people. I knew I wanted to be in travel from that moment on. Upon my return, I was approached by a company who was going to host an international travel trade event in Texas. I was sold instantly and had to be a part of this great event…International Pow Wow! The rest is history.
What project(s) had the biggest influence on you personally and/or professionally?
Number one, I met my wife thanks to working at the Dallas CVB with our Sports Marketing department, where she worked. Lucky me!
Second, has to be IPW. It just keeps returning to my life—three times so far!
Lastly, hosting major events has left a big mark on me. I’ve been fortunate to host a Super Bowl, NBA All Star Game, Final Four, two World Series, Cotton Bowl, and BCS Championship in Arlington. And, a World Cup in 1994, and every major industry event while in Dallas.
What accomplishments are you most proud of?
Building an incredible team in Anaheim! Expanding the role and potential of DMOs in economic development, workforce development, and community engagement. DMOs can be the economic engine that brings communities together, drives expansion of other industries, and brings people together by understanding other people and cultures.
