CALTRAVEL POLITICAL ACTION COMMITTEE

The CalTravel PAC is a bipartisan political action committee that makes direct contributions to state officeholders, candidates, and committees who support and benefit the California travel and tourism industry. Investing in CalTravel PAC provides an avenue for travel and tourism professionals to pool their resources to have a greater impact on legislative campaigns. Growing the CalTravel PAC is CalTravel’s number one strategic priority to increase influence, visibility, and credibility of the industry with decision makers. Since its formation over 25 years ago, CalTravel PAC has made it a priority to help elect candidates who truly understand the value of travel and tourism—and defeat those who do not.

The PAC Trustees are bipartisan and members of the CalTravel Board of Directors. They are travel and tourism leaders who are familiar with the community’s concerns and decide to whom funds will be distributed. They contribute to candidates based on their past and continuing support of the business community’s agenda and make decisions with the ultimate goal of creating a strong and prosperous tourism economy for California.

THE IMPORTANCE OF THE PAC

The CalTravel PAC competes with powerful organizations and interest groups that contribute thousands of dollars to candidates who support harmful regulation and laws that damage and restrict the flow of travel to and within California. It is extremely difficult for an individual organization to make a political impact when acting alone. The CalTravel PAC offers the travel and tourism industry organized, collective political action and is the only fund dedicated to supporting California state legislators who value travel and tourism and its positive economic impact and job creation.

By contributing to CalTravel PAC you will be working with our 900+ travel and tourism members to elect candidates who support industry-friendly policies. Even if a particular race is outside of an organization’s own area, CalTravel PAC provides a unique opportunity for the entire travel and tourism community to work together to create a pro-travel and tourism majority in the State Legislature.

WHO CAN GIVE?

Individuals, businesses, and non-profit organizations may contribute to the CalTravel PAC. 501(c)(6) and 501(c)(4)s including DMOs can contribute from private revenue sources, but are prohibited from contributing using their public resources, such as TID funds. Government agencies and 501(c)(3)s may not contribute. Foreign companies may not contribute either, but U.S. subsidiaries of foreign companies may.

In general, individuals, businesses (corporations, LLCs, partnerships, sole proprietors), and political action committees may contribute up to $9,100 per year to the CalTravel PAC to use for contributions to state candidates; an unlimited amount may be given for other uses, including contributions to local candidates and other PACs, independent expenditures, PAC fundraising and administration.
