ABOUT US
California Travel Association (CalTravel) is the unified advocacy voice of the travel and tourism industry in California. It protects and advances the interests and investments of California’s travel industry through advocacy, collaboration, and education. We champion the importance and value of tourism; foster dialogue and relationships among industry stakeholders; and provide meaningful educational opportunities.
ADVOCACY WORK
Alongside experienced lobbyists, CalTravel works to increase the travel and tourism industry’s visibility while generating support for policies that protect and advance the inrestests of its members. Through advocacy to the California Legislature, we address a host of issues that directly and indirectly affect our industry. We keep our members informed about the bills that matter most to our industry, and take official positions on measures of most significance.
THE PAC
The CalTravel PAC’s mission is to maintain a political campaign fund to finance efforts supporting California state and local officeholders, candidates, and committees which support and benefit the California travel and tourism industry. The PAC also educates policy makers on the importance of travel and tourism to our state. Growing the PAC is CalTravel’s number one strategic priority to increase influence, visibility, and credibility.
BOARD OF DIRECTORS
CalTravel is fortunate to have a strong and diverse Board of Directors to help our organization grow in influence, effectiveness, and value. The Board oversees the work of CalTravel and directs management, strategy, and investment. Nearly 100 destinations, advocacy associations, tourism businesses, universities, and tourism services currently have representation on the Board of Directors.
COMMITTEES & COUNCILS
CalTravel’s committees and councils offer a venue for collaboration, help shape the future of our association, and allow members to further develop their careers and add value to their organizations. With 20 different active committees and councils, all industry professionals can have a space to make their voices heard and lend their expertise to the work that we do. These groups work efficiently, recognizing that our members’ time is valuable.
TOOLKITS
CalTravel has developed a variety of toolkits to help members develop a better understanding of issues and opportunities; educate themselves on programs and best practices; and become informed and empowered advocates. Toolkit content ranges from advocacy and tourism recovery to sustainability, DE&I, and cannabis tourism.
EVENTS
CalTravel hosts a variety of events each year, including quarterly board meetings, PAC fundraisers, Tourism Advocacy Day, and the annual CalTravel Summit. These events offer invaluable opportunities to gain knowledge from thought leaders; participate in Q&As; exchange ideas and best practices; have important conversations; and build relationships with other industry professionals. Members get free registration for board meetings and discounted registration for the CalTravel Summit.
COMMUNICATIONS
CalTravel regularly deploys member-only e-newsletters, which we use to keep members informed on important tourism news, issues, insights, and opportunities. We deliver the hottest tourism topics directly to members’ inboxes, ensuring that they are always in the know and equipped with the information they need to tackle any challenge.
CONNECTIONS
If you're trying to fill an open position at your company, receive more proposals for an RFP, generate more registrations for an event, or simply want to share some news, CalTravel can help! We broadcast our members' news to connect them with our network of talented travel and tourism professionals looking for new opportunities. We can also help facilitate introductions.
STAFF
Our small-but-mighty team is always available to answer any questions you might have, provide insights and support on issues, connect you with other members and key contacts, and more. Members have direct access to staff, including CalTravel’s staff lobbyist and one of the Capitol’s top lobbying firms for support and insight on political issues facing your organization.
